HINCHINBROOK
Hinchinbrook is home to some of the East Coast's best fly and lure fishing for a variety of species. Two inshore 5.5 metre vessels operating out of Hinchinbrook can cater for groups of 4 and larger. The area has a variety of species and fishing options, from freshwater to estuary and beyond, many of this in shallow water so sight fishing is a definite option. Main inshore target species are Barramundi, Permit, Mangrove jack, Threadfin Salmon, Fingermark, Trevally and many more. A 34ft Gameboat offers offshore fishing targeting Black Marlin, Sailfish, Mackeral, Tuna and Giant Trevally. Giant Trevally or GTs are becoming popular sport in Australia and Hinchinbrook offers the best option available.

Species The number of species are endless , but the following are the most commonly targeted. BARRAMUNDI; PERMIT; QUEENFISH; GIANT TREVALLY; SOOTY GRUNTER; MANGROVE JACK; JUNGLE PERCH; GOLDEN TREVALLY; TARPON; THREADFIN SALMON; BLUE SALMON An Overview The fishing in this region is great all year round dependant on the weather. Best time for Barramundi fishing is February-May and August-December. Best weather patterns are April/May and August - November. February/March is usually great fishing but the weather unreliable. The best times of year for big barra is Sept/Oct and the best for numbers on average Feb/March. Permit are in the channel and inshore flats all year round with the best in May or August , 70 plus 6-8 kilo fish schooled up on a sand bar and not a flyfisher in sight is a typical scenerio.
Tarpon provide good fun for fly rodders these fish can be targeted all year round in a variety of locations. The most productive days see about 40-50 barra sighted and struck with about 20-25 landed, many other species captured also. An average day fly fishing for barra would see 12-20 struck.
